MIKID improves the behavioral health and wellness of children and youth through a family-centered approach. We do so through providing a wide range of specialty behavioral health services for youth and young adults at licensed clinics, in the family homes and communities across Arizona. We provide services that include Living Skills development, Respite time for the family, Transitional-age Youth programming, Youth Leadership Groups, Case Management, Family Support, and Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention Education. Our services are offered at no cost to the family through support from our community partners.
With the support of the Phoenix Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Phoenix Metro Chamber Foundation and your donation of $100, MIKID was able to provide transportation for our youth to attend a session at Burton Barr Library that included a Therapy Dog and bring in a Therapy Horse to our Phoenix clinic this fall. As all the youth in our program experience mental and/or behavioral health challenges, opportunities to engage with a therapy animal provide many positive impacts, including reducing anxiety and depression, increasing skills of empathy and teamwork, and increasing a youth’s level of trust and ability to read nonverbal cues from those in their environment. Living Skills activities such as these are an important part in helping to mitigate the negative symptoms of their mental illness and could not have been possible without your support. On behalf of the youth and families we serve, THANK YOU!
